Yes, Malays go berserk when you talk about conversions either into or out of Islam. Malays are only concerned about getting as many kafirs as possible to convert to Islam while ensuring that no one tries to leave Islam. They don’t really care what you believe in or what you do after you become a Muslim.
NO HOLDS BARRED
Raja Petra Kamarudin
Four years ago, on 13 August 2004, Friday the Thirteenth to be exact, Malaysia Today was born. Friday the Thirteenth is the title out of a horror movie. It is supposed to be a day when your hair stands on end and you sit at the edge of your seat biting your nails. I just hope Malaysia Today is exactly that to those who walk in the corridors of power -- their greatest nightmare that will continue to haunt them till the day they go to their miserable graves.
Today is not Friday the Thirteenth. But it is 13 August, the Anniversary of the ‘founding’ of Malaysia Today. So allow me to haunt those who walk in the corridors of power and those who wish to walk in the corridors of power. And true to what no holds barred stands for and in the spirit of taking no prisoners, no one is going to be spared today.
Okay, maybe I will miss out some targets. But this is not because I want to spare them. It is just that there are so many issues with so little space in which to expound upon. Rest assured those who were not ‘honoured’ today with a mention is not due to reasons that we have forgotten or forgiven them. We will certainly get to them in time, as there are no sacred cows in Malaysia Today.
First on my list, but certainly not in order of priority, is Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim’s stupid move to open UITM’s doors to Chinese and Indians. Does the Menteri Besar of Selangor not know that UITM is a national and not Selangor State institution? Okay, maybe he did propose that only 10% of places in UITM be given to the Chinese and Indians while Malays can still retain 90% of the places. Nevertheless, this is blasphemy as far as the Malays are concerned.
Can you imagine if in America they open the doors of their universities to blacks, even if it is just 10% of the places that are given to blacks? Certainly no American would want the 100% all-white universities to be contaminated with black-skinned people. There would be riots on the streets. Blood would flow. There would be total chaos and anarchy. Khalid had best leave things as they are and not try to become the champion of the poor, oppressed and downtrodden.
Okay, Khalid might argue that not all Chinese and Indians are rich. He can try to argue that there are Chinese and Indians who are even poorer than the Malays. He can even prove that many UITM students drive to the campus in BMWs and Mercedes Benzes. He can articulate to the best of his ability that government aid must be based on eligibility and merit and not based on the colour of one’s skin. Hey, this is not what the New Economic Policy is all about! The NEP is a race-based policy and not about helping the poor, oppressed and downtrodden. Sheesh, where has Khalid been all this while? And he claims to have come from the corporate world. You could have fooled me.
Is Khalid a Trojan Horse? Is he trying to sabotage PKR’s chances in the Permatang Pauh by-election? 70% of the voters in Permatang Pauh are Malays. Umno will be able to use this attempt to open the doors of UITM to the Chinese and Indians to ‘prove’ to the Malays in Permatang Pauh that PKR or Pakatan Rakyat are traitors to the Malay race. How could Khalid have been so stupid as to even suggest that UITM opens its doors to Chinese and Indians, even if it is only 10%? This will throw a spanner in PKR’s election campaign in Permatang Pauh.
Anyway, the good news is, Anwar Ibrahim may not be able to contest the Permatang Pauh by-election on 26 August 2008. The Elections Commission (SPR) and the Attorney-General are looking for ways in which to disqualify him. They know that Anwar will win hands down. The only question is whether he will win with a 15,000-20,000-vote majority or with a mere 5,000-8,000 votes. Umno can’t even find a candidate to contest against Anwar. Shariff Omar has declined, as has Ibrahim Saad. Both these Umno Penang warlords do not dare face Anwar in the by-election because they know they will be massacred. The only way out would be to disqualify Anwar on a technicality. So Khalid may not have harmed Anwar’s chances since he may not be contesting the by-election after all.
I always said that PAS is smarter and more matured than PKR. It has declared that it is even prepared to leave Pakatan Rakyat for the sake of Islam. See the Malaysiakini report: PAS rela tinggal Pakatan demi Islam (http://us2.malaysia-today.net/2008/content/view/11303/84/ ). It is also proposing that a Malay-Islam Secretariat be set up as reported also by Malaysiakini: Usul urusetia Melayu-Islam ala Suqiu (http://us2.malaysia-today.net/2008/content/view/11305/84/ ). And while everyone is so gung ho about the possibility of Anwar Ibrahim forming the new federal government in September, PAS has warned that it is only prepared to work with Pakatan Rakyat in the federal government if there are more Muslim than non-Muslim Members of Parliament, as reported by the New Straits Times: Condition for Pas to join any new govt (http://us2.malaysia-today.net/2008/content/view/11285/84/ ).
Okay, PAS may not win much Chinese and Indian support after this. Maybe, come the next election, PAS will see its support in the Chinese and Indian areas diminish. But that is not too important to PAS. As long as it can form the state governments in Kelantan, Terengganu, Perlis and Kedah that is all that matters. Better PAS be in control of just four ‘Malay’ states rather than it becomes part of the federal government if it means they have to be the minority partner in a Chinese and Indian majority federal government.
PAS is an old party. It is older than even Umno and far older than PKR, which is barely ten years old. That is why PAS is wiser and more matured, politically, compared to PKR. PKR needs to learn a thing or two from PAS. Khalid needs to also learn from PAS. There are far more Malay majority seats than ‘mixed’ seats. Getting Chinese and Indian support is not important. It is Malay support that counts. And this is where PAS is savvier than PKR. PAS knows which side its bread is buttered. PKR still thinks that equality, justice, fair-play, an end to racism, etc., is the road to Putrajaya.
Wise up PKR and try to learn from PAS if you want Anwar to become the next Prime Minister. It is racism and not any other ideals that will put you in the Prime Minister’s seat. You think if you play fair and expound justice and equality for the Chinese and Indians that is going to put you in power? If these were important issues to the voters then PKR would have been in power way back in 1999. If it did not happen ten years ago why should it happen now? Let me say that again in case you miss my point: racism and not justice is what will give you the Prime Minister’s job. And you had better not forget it.
Maybe Khalid can issue an apology. He should say sorry to the Malays that he has asked UITM to open its doors to the Chinese and Indians. Don’t ever again propose that 10% of places in UITM be given to the Chinese and Indians. Not even 1% will be tolerated, let alone 10%. This, of course, would be if you do not want Umno to use this issue against Pakatan Rakyat in the run-up to the Permatang Pauh by-election.
Hey, only 30% of the voters in Permatang Pauh are Chinese and Indians. 70% are Malays. Do you need to be a rocket scientist to understand who is going to give you that win? Surely it is apparent that the 70% voters are more important than the 30%. Even a fool would know this. And this is where PAS is no fool. They know why Umno won 79 seats all by themselves while PKR, DAP and PAS, combined, won only 82 seats. It is because racism and not justice is what counts.
Even then the Pakatan Rakyat 82 is not really 82. Ibrahim Ali sides with Umno. Zulkifli Nordin supports GPMS, an Umno outfit, in opposition to the Bar Council’s forum on conversion to Islam. Minus all those Pakatan Rakyat Members of Parliament who share Umno’s ideals and the 82 would probably be reduced to 70 or less. So Umno’s 79 is more solid than Pakatan Rakyat’s 82. In reality, Umno actually has 90 Parliament seats while Pakatan Rakyat has only 70. And Umno’s 90 is all by themselves while Pakatan Rakyat’s 70 is shared by three parties.
You really think that Anwar can form the federal government in September? Not by the way PAS and some PKR Members of Parliament are talking and acting. They are not concerned whether or not at least 30 Barisan Nasional Members of Parliament are going to cross over to Pakatan Rakyat. They want to make sure that these 30 Barisan Nasional Members of Parliament are Malays and not Chinese, Indians, Dayaks, Ibans, Kadazans, etc. And it has to be a new federal government that upholds the interest of the Malays, not the interest of Malaysians. Only that formula will be acceptable to PAS and some Members of Parliament from PKR.
It was interesting to note that 300 or so Malays demonstrated outside the Bar Council office on Saturday to protest a forum being organised there. Two days later, on Monday, the Bar Council organised another forum, but this time about the Sedition Act. There were no noisy Malays screaming and wailing outside the Bar Council office on Monday, acting as if they were possessed by the devil. In fact, there were hardly any Malays even in the hall. Malays were visibly absent from the forum.
Yes, Malays go berserk when you talk about conversions either into or out of Islam. Malays are only concerned about getting as many kafirs as possible to convert to Islam while ensuring that no one tries to leave Islam. They don’t really care what you believe in or what you do after you become a Muslim. What is important is that you wear this label that identifies you as a Muslim. Never mind if it is just a label worn externally. Never mind that beneath this label, in your heart, you don’t care a damn about Islam. What is in your heart is not crucial. That label that you wear externally is.
Take Monday’s Sedition Act forum at the Bar Council office as an example. Malays did not care a damn about that forum. In fact, Malays have no problems even if there are laws like the Sedition Act, Internal Security Act, and many more such laws. 51% of the Malays voted for the government that upholds such laws. More than three million Malays are members of Umno, the political party that upholds such laws.
Okay, you may argue that Islam is against these laws. You may argue that these laws are un-Islamic. You may argue that Islam forbids injustice, inequality, discrimination, racism, persecution, transgressions and corruption. You may argue that Islam makes it mandatory for all Muslims to oppose injustice, inequality, discrimination, racism, persecution, transgressions and corruption. You may argue that a Muslim who does not oppose injustice, inequality, discrimination, racism, persecution, transgressions and corruption is not a true Muslim. You may argue that God Himself has decreed that all Muslims must oppose injustice, inequality, discrimination, racism, persecution, transgressions and corruption. But 51% of the Malays who voted for Umno and the more than three million Malays who are members of Umno are only concerned that Khalid has proposed that 10% of places in UITM be given to the Chinese and Indians. They are not in the least concerned with what God said or what God has decreed in the Quran.
But try insulting Islam -- even if they only perceive with their very narrow minds that you are insulting Islam -- and see what happens. Try defiling the Quran by stepping on it or by flushing it down the toilet and see what happens. There will be 300 screaming and wailing Malays demonstrating on the streets, acting as if they were possessed by the devil. Okay, so these 300 screaming and wailing Malays, acting as if they were possessed by the devil, do not really uphold the spirit of Islam or adhere to the message of the Quran or comply with God’s decree. That is substance. That is not what counts. What does is form, the impression that one is upholding Islam, even though it is void of the spirit of Islam. And that was why not many Malays were interested in Monday’s forum on the Sedition Act at the Bar Council’s office.
Granted, 1,400 or so years ago, Prophet Muhammad too was subjected to the Sedition Act, even though, then, it was not yet called the Sedition Act -- although the spirit of what they tried to do to Prophet Muhammad remains the same. Granted, the powers-that-be tried to silence Prophet Muhammad in an attempt to get him to stop speaking out against the government and against the official religion of Mekah at that time. Granted, they intimidated Prophet Muhammad with insults, abuse and ridicule -- and finally, when they failed to silence him, they tried to bribe him with offers of power and money. Granted, when everything they tried to do to stop Prophet Muhammad from talking failed, they plotted to kill him. Granted, God commanded Prophet Muhammad to leave Mekah and to seek refuge in Medina where he would be free to speak and there would be no Sedition Act to prevent him from speaking. Granted, Prophet Muhammad’s migration from Mekah is called the Hijrah and is very significant in Islam. Granted, the migration of Prophet Muhammad to escape the Sedition Act is so important that the first day of Hijrah is the first day of the Islamic calendar -- also called the Hijrah Calendar.
But hardly any Malays who claim that they are true Muslims were at the Bar Council’s forum on Monday to discuss the Sedition Act because there was no screaming and wailing and acting as if one was possessed by the devil. Most of the people who were there were kafirs who demonstrated more Islamic qualities than Muslims themselves. And this is because even though these kafirs do not demonstrate the form of Islam, they do, however, possess the spirit of Islam and they do uphold the values of Islam. The true Muslims that Monday at the Bar Council forum were, unfortunately, the kafirs. But they did not scream and wail and act like they were possessed by the devil. They were civilised and discussed matters with decorum in the manner that Islam prescribes.

Our Malays have a very severe case of “inferiority complex” which makes them shit scared of working & living outside of their sphere.
So they will and do screamed bloody violence & murder when others, outside of their comfort zone, touch on anything that they blindly and fervently holdfast to be the one and only truth.

I can understand that. Yes the Muslims arent wise to the Sedition Act, but at least they are wise to external forces trying to manipulate rules and regulations of Islam to suit westernized concepts and philosphy of freedom and justice.

I thoroughly agree if u say that 16 Sept is a bridge too far. I am hopeful but I have my reservations. Accordingly PR is like a 3 headed dragon, each component party has a "mind" and "agenda" of it's own. There is no "one for all, and all for one" mentality here.
I guess, our country is not ready for non racial politics yet.

And Allah says, "Whoever desires a religion other than Islam, it will never be accepted of him and in the Hereafter, he will be amongst the loosers." (Surah 3, verse 85)
So that is the reasons why the Malays who by birth rights are Muslims cannot accept the freedom of speech held by the "Bar Council" as something right in view held by Malaysia Malays as thought "Offensive" to them. There in their eyes they did not manipulate rules and regulations of Islam to suit them but only "jihad" or in defense of Islam principles.
Therefore the Non-Muslims must understand the stand that the Malay Muslims take
on the "Bar Council" forum has justifications, nevertheless people over reactions
such as "screaming, wailing and as if possessed by the devil" is not Islamic.

Why? One man will not be able to change the thinking of a large majority of the 14 million Malays that make up Malaysia's 27.5M population. I mean come on, who are we trying to fool. Even within Pakatan Rakyat, you have the PAS entity who obviously made their intentions clear. You even have a Malay PKR MP who uses racist remarks. I mean, let us just get real. And this is only among the PR. Let's not even go into the UMNO issues. Let's not even mention the 'Keris bathing the Chinese blood' issue, let's not even go into the 'Go back to your own country so that you can be a 1st class citizen' incidents.
I have forsaken my country, for good hopefully. For the sake of my family esp my children, I have taken the decision to give up my Malaysian citizenship. In doing so, my children will not have to undergo what some of the non Bumi students are going through. The will never be called monkeys, negroes or any other derogatory terms by their teachers, they will never be asked to go back to their 'own country' in order to be treated equal, they will never need to grow up not understanding why they, their parents, their grandparents are born in Malaysia but still not treated equal in the eyes of the Government.
Yes, I am a 'traitor' for turning my back on Malaysia. No doubt, my heart still swells with pride, and my eyes gets misty when I still hear the Negaraku. But even that, I will overcome eventually...

In real truth it is because of an inferiority complex. We asians 20 to 30 years ago carry this complex in our relationship with western people because the reality was that we were backward everywhere you look, although the situation is changing here.

I don’t agree with that translation as “Allah” is the God of Abraham, the Israelis, Christians, and then to us Muslims. That translation implies that God converted to Islam and it holds no water with me as God/Allah is answerable to no humans nor religions which ARE created by mere humans.

For a lawyer, you sound pretty naive. Of course you are not the enemy. These 300 persons possessed by the devil are not interested in the subject discussed. They just want to show Ketuanan umno not the glory of Islam. Look at the ugly gorilla who shouted "I represent Umno, cina and india go to hell..." The riot was oragnised by umno with assistance from the PDRM. A few fools from PAS and PKR joined in to demonstrate Ketuanan umno. Bottomline, no more no less. Islam was just the "tool of the trade" that disgraceful day. Can you expect anything less from umno? Umno, the sleepy idiot and the Mr shit and gang will use whatever means to stay in power, even Islam, even their mothers if they are still alive. Mr Shit gave the go ahead order when he said he expected trouble over this forum..

The followers of Islam is displaying negative traits that I don’t like, example racist and without principle. Those in power and practice Islam takes legal action against (use all sorts laws) oppositions for being racist but were quiet when their own kind did exactly the same thing. This goes to show that they are not man of principle but only for own agendas.
Liar. The leader of Islam Hadari actually lied in public not once but a few times. Does Islam encourage lies, if not why the leader lies? Why the so call Islam believers still support him?
Narrow minded and inferiority complex. Those who practice Islam have been living a situation where they are given privileges until they are so scared to live without them. They no longer dare to take challenges or face reality without the so call protection.
Even though I don’t think that Islam actually causes all that negative traits but it failed to influence the people to be good. For those of you, who are pro Islam, please ask your fellow worshipers to behave so that others like me will not have negative views of Islam. It is those traitors that make is looks bad, please don’t blame me for having lost faith in Islam.

Remember the society and the country is opening up becoz of globalisation. More foreign banks, more competition, more foreigners are here to study, more differing culture, more franchise, more holidays makers, more transparency and all we could think of for this minority is to protect the race. ?????? How long more....the country can protect to a certain extend but as we move along the nation WILL crumble.
In the end, the nation which has all the made up races (Malay, Chinese, Indian, eurasion, etc) will fall in failure to compete becoz the rule of law could not be upheld and the thinking is emotional and the ppl are irrational.
More than 11-12 years ago when I was in Singapore for a holiday and happen to watch a speech given by Minister Lee Kuan Yew, he was already presenting on Globalisation and the internet law in which to follow. Even then he had already the far sighteness in talking abt how Asia is to be develop. Basically in the nut shell he was saying how to strengthen his country by having a more united Asia. Today in picking their new Premier and grooming the next generation PM to take over from his son, they are already planning 10 year into the future. Look at our planning. No need for concern for all this becoz we are worried abt lesser important things. Maybe RPKs way to shock the Malays into coming to their senses may just be the thing.

I'm agreed with redtango comments on migrate his family to Singapore for the betterment of next generation. A lot of people would like to do the same, unable to do so because of their parents had been here for a long long time. It's difficult for them to adopt the different culture.
Personally I felt Malaysia still a nice country to live with full of opportunities.......... provided you do away with politics. You still can own a big car or big house, as long as you are affordable. Other countries, you might have some restriction or whatsoever as 2nd or 3rd class citizens.
Anyhow, education will be our BIGGEST concern for our next generation. Prediction by some analyst, that Malaysia will soon (in 10 years) becoming like Philipines.... exporting 'maids' or low skilled labours to other countries!! This is s scary scenario and hope our government will do something about it!!

Your decision is not any different from Robert Kuok's. Just last year or so, The Star still puts him as the richest Malaysian. I believe he is no longer staying in Malaysia but a Hong King PR. He has left Malaysia long time ago and does businesses all around the globe. He is not perfect I agree, but if you look at his strategies, he considers the world his oyster. Let's not be so caught up with the land of Malaysia. Make your wealth in other countries, and you can always purchase properties in other lands or Malaysia lands. We already know that the Malay landowners are not interested in working their land, they just want quick money by selling their land.
By all means transfer your skills, assets and wealth to where the ground is fertile. We are living in a borderless world. Assets and currencies are circling the world in billions every minute. There is no better revenge than to be so excessively SUCCESSFUL that you can buy up your whole kampung.
Today the BN govt kiss the ground Kuok walks on and welcome him to invest in Malaysia. Change your status to the highly valuable INVESTOR OF MALAYSIA, as citizen of Malaysia is worthless.
Better to pay your taxes in Singapore/Australia/HK than to Malaysian IRD. At least you get to enjoy the govt facilities.
The UMNOputeras are milking Malaysians dry, at the same time shouting race and Malay supremacy to the lower and middle-class Malays. They still can't see it, but we the "minorities" have seen it over and over, and we know from former PM to current PM and their monkeys, they are transferring heaps of cash out of Malaysia (while the common citizen has to declare any transfers > RM50,000). Frankly I do not understand how the Malays are so blind to UMNO sodomising them in the name of malay supremacy.
In the end malays here will be left with their skin colour and malay bones but a bankrupt Malaysia. And no more oil money too.
So, are you in position to buy up Malaysia?

I see the possiblity for SPR to amend the SPR Rules . Yes the Home Affairs Minister can use Ministerial provision under the main ACT to make 'new Rules' to " disqualify " DSAI from contesting .
A 'Candidate ' means anyone 'not having any outstanding and unresolved Criminal Proceeding against him or her before, on and during nomination day'. Such 'Rules' can be formulated by the Home Minister as a condition for all candidate to contest. It will open a floodgate to prevent not just DSAi but other eligible persons fro contesting as MPS and ADUNs. I know it is very cruel to formulate these "two-edged sword Rules".
Pakatan Rayat better standby another candidate to contest if DSAI is disqualified on nomination Day on 16-8-2008. Statutory Declarartion must be Stamped as well remember ? By the way, UiTM is a non- issue for a very time.Just respect that will do.
Syabas Barisan Rakyat.

Dear RPK,
Thirteen means 'ONE more than twelve' and you sir, RPK, is that special 'ONE'. Today RPK and Malaysia Today are ONE -if someone thinks of RPK MT comes to mind and vice versa. You had a dream 4 years ago and that gave birth to MT. The trials and tribulations that you have undergone the past 4 years and still undergoing has placed you on a pedestal which not many in our country can reach. Congratulations sir and may your dreams be fulfilled.
On this 4th Anniversary of MT, I wish and pray that the rational Malays and true Muslims voice out their support for the majority in quelling the vociferous underlings who are being 'instigated' by political and religious leaders having their own agendas.
Cheers mate.

Many a time, we must try to step into the shoes of the ordinary regular guy on the streets to try and understand how he perceives a situation from HIS point of view. And more often than not, his is the 'moral' view, not the legal one. Quite different perspectives! As for the 'political' view ...

Protest of Bar Council Forum: Shamala and Subashini Betrayed By Malaysia

Yes, as Malaysian, I am very dissapointed with the behavior and reaction of some Malays in the recent Bar Council forum on conversion and Selangor MB's recommendation of UMIT. When I said some Malays, I believe they represent minority of the Malays. Most of the Malays I know are far more open minded that those involved in the demonstration and they will never react that manner. Unfortunately, these majority Malays did not speak out and this gave the impression that most of the Malays are of the same opinion as those involved in the demonstration.
What Raja Petra said is very true and I am sure most Malays will agreed with it. It is time for the majority to speak out so that we do not allow this small group of narrow minded Malays keep pulling us back and influence the rest.
For the Selangor Mentri Besar Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim. Syabas for doing the right thing and something good for the country. Similar to Bar Council for attempting to correct things. I do not think, the proposal by Khalid was intended to take anything away from the Malays. If we are serious of moving forward as Malaysians we have to slowly unwind those racial institutions. If we are serious about national integration then we should not be talking about racial segregation. If we are serious about national and racial unity, we need to move on as Malaysians. As such we need a Prime Minister for Malaysians, MB and CM for Malaysians, MP and state assemblymen for Malaysians and not for one race.
So not only we do not want to hear PAS and UMNO talking racial matter, we also do not want DAP, MCA, MIC and all racial parties to talk about race. These racial parties should attempt to merge or change to non racial. We need courageous people like Raja Petra, Khalid, Lim Guan Eng and many more patriotic Malaysians to stand up and speak and act what is right for Malaysians.
We call upon all Malaysians who love Malaysia to speak up againt those who try to play racial issue. Join us to make Malaysia a country we can be proud of. In order to do that, make sure we make our votes do the talking and retire all racist politicians regardless of whether he is in the government or oppositions.
Long Live Malaysia and Long Live Malaysia Today.

PKR, DAP and PAS MUST sit down NOW and decide their Federal roles and responsibilities for PR to succeed. Malaysia will be much worse off if PKR, DAP or PAS win states but loses the country, not only will the politics be racial, it will be geographical and ideological. It will be disunity of the highest order.

Artfulone: "In real truth it is because of an inferiority complex. We asians 20 to 30 years ago carry this complex in our relationship with western people because the reality was that we were backward everywhere you look, although the situation is changing here." ..... How very true. And the good thing is that over the years, we Chinese and Indians realized the importance of learning and mingling with the foreigners. We worked hard to do the same for our children. And now we can truly say we come to a level where we no longer feel inferior to the Westerners. This is all thanks to the Malay racists politicians, because without their help, we could end up like them, suffering from an inferiority complex and allowing our brain cells to die!

Nothing has happened to change my mind. In fact, everything so far points to that direction that our country is heading to.
You can bet your your last ringgit that UMNO(abetted by MCA, MIC, and Gerakan) will be playing the race card to the fullest in this by-election. This race card has never failed to be UMNO's winning formula. Even TDM used it to the fullest each time UMNO was facing internal turmoil, and came out a clear winner in any elections.
RPK is right. The Malays will always respond to racism, never mind if those in power rape the country openly left, right, and center, and don't have the slightest interest in their welfare.

You are right. To each his own.
I wish you all the best.
However, for many years I have pledged my OWN future to Malaysia. I had slogged to make 'future' for myself in MALAYSIA. I was from the same Alma mater as TDM, TAR etc and eventhough my O level results (SPM) was the 3rd best in the school, I was not offered any scholarship by MY Govt. On the contrary, I was given a FULL scholarship by a foreign govt.
And even so, after I graduated with an Engineering degree, I still chose to come back to Malaysia because I still believe I could and SHOULD contribute to my country. For 15 years, I BELIEVED I was contributing.
But over the years, you would NOT be normal if you were not disillusioned with how you were being treated in your OWN country. The most pertinent question I asked myself was 'Why am I made to feel like a second class citizen?'. Why?
Now that I have my own children, I have decided to cut the umbilical cord that ties me to my Malaysia. Yes, to each his own you say... but to me, after 40 years of putting my fate in the hands of the people who runs my beloved country, I have decided I will not put the fate of my children in those same hands.
Once bitten twice shy.......

It is unfortunate that despite all the enlightenment that MT has provided the past 4 years we are still in the dark and wandering like the Jews in the desert!
I guess we must persevere and have the patience and tolerence to eventually reap the fruits of our labour.
It is good that Muhammad managed to flee to Medina to escape the Sedition Act prevalent then. Unfortunately, Jesus was not so successful and was also tried on being seditious and ultimately suffered the worse death anyman could ever want, hanging on the cross! Again, like Malaysia, he was misunderstood when he spoke of his 'kingdom' as the Romans narrow minds could only comprehend them losing their jobs!! Their shortsightedness could not see beyond the physical. Something spiritual was too abstract and complicated for them. As such, Jesus was the sacrificial lamb of his time. And he was innocent, too.
I am disappointed that the Bar Council was denied its 'rights' to a forum to help the public understand real life problems through inter marriage and conversion which no one has bothered to clarify for years. The problems faced by the non Malays is nothing new. True, the demonstrators also had the 'right' to assemble, whether with a permit or not, but they crossed the line when they disrupted the peaceful assembly behind closed doors and demanded its termination. The police also did not exercise their 'right' to stop this from happening which is what they are paid to do.
The situation today in Malaysia is sad. We must pray earnestly for divine intervention and a better tomorrow. In faith, we can overcome!
written by CatV5, August 13, 2008 | 19:01:24
Marvellous punch line RPK... you do deserve an award... The root cause of the problem is revealing itself... More to come from the God. It's not punishment, it's revelation from "whoever that is"... stay tune...

Dear Sir,

If DSAI does form the next government and manages to change the future of Malaysia and Malaysians, you will have played a pivotal role in that change.
Like the dude says, that 70% is not 100% "scream and wail and act like they were possessed by the devil" kinda person.... more and more Malay are realizing this (that includes me).... thanks to RPK and MT for bringing this awareness to us...
These "scream and wail and act like they were possessed by the devil" people have been spoon fed with the glories of the wars from the Prophet Muhammad's time. Always thinking the "kafirs" are plotting to bring Islam down. ALWAYS thinking not to trust Christians and Jews. They won't see further than that due to fear of being called a traitor, murtads, and lack of information on the true Islamic teaching. These people which mostly men (women are taught to shut the f**k up), feared God too much and this fear is being manipulated by the powers that be. The devils, satan, syaitan, dajjal, UMNO or whatever you wanna call. I've been there. I know it felt. Those who become aware of this knows...
I believe God has His own way of teaching this kind of people lessons.... We just have to be patient and learn not to be like "scream and wail and act like they were possessed by the devil" people. Either in this life or the afterlife, we're gonna realize the true path.

I remember that every 31st august, my late dad will make it a point to take us all to witness the national day parade. He instilled in me the sense of pride of being malaysian. Sadly, the UMNOputras will never accept this fact. We will always be "lain-lain". So I have decide that it will be better to be lain-lain in another man's country than in my country of birth. As far as PAS and UMNO are concerened, it is six of one and half a dozen of the other. This web site is my top source for news in Malaysia. PKR keep up the good work because we need to keep working on politicians arrogant and idiotic ways of doing things. Muslims need to know that Islam doesn't need defending but Muslims does need the outside world know who they are and where they stand in this world. If not it will be quite useless even if Islam is a beautiful religion because no one is willing to let the remaining 6 billion non-muslim people in this world know. Yes, I agree the Malay vote is important in the Permatang Pauh fight but don't discount the non-Malay vote. Let's say that Anwar gets all the non-Malay vote. That's 30%. Now, the Malays comprise 70% and Anwar only needs 30% of the Malay vote to pull 51% (0.3 x 70% 30%) of the vote overall and win.
Of course Anwar will not get 100% of the non-Malay vote but he's not likely to pull only 30% of the Malay vote either. I think there are many Malays who can see through Umno's racial manipulation, they can see that 10% of UiTM palces to bright non-Malays will raise the standard of the university. We must credit the rural Malays with more intelligence, the general view of them as 'katak di bawah tempuring' is outdated, they do know what's going on in the world.
In the worse case, even if Umno pulls out all the racial and religious stops to attack DSAI, I think he will still get at least 40% of the Malay vote. But then it gets so ugly that Umno will lose all the non-Malay votes. So DSAI will still get 58% (0.4 x 70% 30%) overall and win the by-election.
Regarding the racist teacher in Teluk Panglima Garang who was rewarded by being transferred to a better school closer to her house? There goes the Indian vote. Good news and bad news afflict both sides.

Hello Friend, You are not alone, I was born and bred in Johor Bahru, and naturally S'pore was the nearest place where I can get employment in the mid 70s, today I still remembered once I was round up by Malaysian immigration officers at the checkpoint in J.B. together with a group of other Malaysians who served in the S'pore Arm forces, the Immigration officers was shouting at us "CHINESE TRAITORS!"
Today I am still in Malaysia doing small business and contribute the country by paying income tax! Traitors What? The biggest Traitors to Malaysia are those who got scholarship and became Datuk and VIPs today and cheats, avoiding paying tax altogether!
The reason most Malaysians worked in S'pore is not we are traitors, its because S'pore Government offer us the opportunities to work and earn some decent salaries, so for those Malaysians who workek in S'pore, please don't feel bad about it.

First of all, it's very very difficult to get a decent job here in Malaysia asspecially when we're non bumiputra. So like it or not, to survive we need to do something rite? That's where the idea to work in Singapore come into the picture.
If all of use been equally treated in our country, I doubt that the 300,000 Malaysian (probably more)would take the trouble to wake up as early as 3.00am and get ready to cross over the causeway to work in Singapore asspecially in today's situation where the traffic jam at the most critical situation.
It's purely because of the survival. Just imagine, to go to work these people need to wake up around 3.00am and by the time they reach home it's already 8 or 9 pm. Fortunately the Singapore currency is 2.34 times bigger than our RM, that's why the income looks big other wise it's not worth to work in Singapore at today's situation.

The money machinery can do anything
a revolt can be started
a M B can be a trojan horse pengkhianat..
under performing students who are dull with stupor can suddenly be awoken to take part in demonstrations
this is called --DISTRACTION STRATEGY-- it gets people to look at things
away from the real issues and the real trouble makers.
it has been used many times...
I think tactically Anwar has made another blunder by harping on his sep16 target..
this made the UMNO machinery workover time to create any type of obstacle..
from demonstrations to sodomy..
...exactly the 1998 blunder when he openly challenged .the mamak..
and fell into the sodomy debacle.

Malays, generally speaking, are accommodating. The 'HOW' are very important. Yes, generally speaking, malays ought be made or seems important to win their hearts. Malays have nothing against other races as long as other races acknowledge the 'accommodations' (for the time being). You know what I mean?
Can UITM accommodate 10% non-malays? Yes, they can but BN should make the move. You get it?

Don't be fooled by exceptions. Obama admittted taxis would avoid him too. Blacks were their cannon fodder in wars, but now they have Chicanos. Read Michael Moore's "Dude Where's My Country?"

I just want to say something, hope you guys asspecially from the majority group don't mind...Here in Malaysia we the minority are 35% and you majority are 65% and we're marginalised and discriminated in all aspects just because of 2 things 1)Religious 2)Race
If I'm not mistaken there are 60 million Muslims in China (China population is 1.3 billion) and there are 200 million Muslims in India (India population is 1.1 billion).
If there rest of the China population which is 1.24 billion and the rest of India population which is 900 million doing the same kind of discrimination ( in politics, education, profession and etc) to their minority Muslims, how you all will feel? What you all will say?
I appreciate if you all can answer this honestly and professionally. We all are not kind anymore so please THINK! THINK! THINK!
Thanks and take care.

"Yes, I am a 'traitor' for turning my back on Malaysia. No doubt, my heart still swells with pride, and my eyes gets misty when I still hear the Negaraku. But even that, I will overcome eventually..."
Lobster said:-
"redtango, to each his own. Many of us still think there is hope. To me, this is my home."
This is my story:-
15 years ago, I had to make a life changing decision "To immigrate or not immigrate?" That was the life changing question. My husband made a similar statement as Retango's, while I stood quite firm on mine, a statement similar to Lobster's. Finally after much counselling and prayers at my church, I reluctantly followed him to Canada with my two year old daughter. My family (more so my parents)back home cried buckets of tears for us. For me, those early years in Canada were not pretty. My constant nagging at my husband to come home to my beloved country went to deaf ears and my marriage suffered a beating. Not a day went peacefully. We made it a point to visit our family during the summer vacation annually, and we still do. Fast forward to current scenario, although I still miss my life in Malaysia, I have no regrets living in Canada now. My daughter who has completed her International Baccalaureate Diploma is entering university this fall. My son will be entering his IB program too. This is a land of opportunities for everyone and no one feels threatened or is made to feel second class. I am still looking forward to retiring back in Malaysia some day but my heart bleeds daily with such ugly things happening back home. Dear lobster, I have always hoped and still hope that God will change the hearts of those Malaysian leaders, but we can't beat God's design for the human body- we age by the seconds and it is at some point in life that one has to make that life changing decision. Believe me, it wasn't easy and I actually went into some kinda depression in my early years in the new land. Reflecting on my decision, yes, it was extremely difficult for me as the first generation immigrant, but my children are reaping the benefits and the fruits of our labour. My husband and I were given equal opportunity the moment we set foot on Canadian soil. My grandparents laboured in Malaysia, my parents laboured in Malaysia, my husband I laboured in Malaysia and we all paid our dues in taxes and .....? We are not going to let our next generation labour and pay taxes to this corrupt government who still treats us as “lain lain.” Only when (I use the word “when” and not “if” because I am still hopeful) there is a change in the government for social justice, I will let my children decide for themselves. In the meantime, we will continue to uphold the pleas of the Malaysian rakyat in our prayers.
It's great to know that we have Malaysia Today where we can get real news. Happy Fourth Anniversary, MT! Great job RPK!!!

In Canada, Muslims are a minority group too but the beautiful thing about the government here is that it has laws to protect all minority groups. No one here is allowed to spit racial slurs or propagate hate for someone different, even if the person has different sexual preferences. It is taught from elementary school that Freedom of speech comes with Responsibility. Kids are taught from young to make wise choices and be responsible for their own actions. My husband and I explain our faith and teach our family values to our kids but then who knows someday they may make their own choices as to whether they want to continue to share their parents' faith? What if they don't? Can we beat the daylight out of them? No. So what if they continue to worship with us in church but then they are "standing up" against us in their hearts and their minds wander off during service? RPK is so right! You can wear loudly any religious or faith labels but your behaviour speaks louder, it's even deafening if your actions are the opposite of what God teaches. Such are the many Muslims back home. It's no wonder they remain silent on RPK's articles on Islam because he points out the truth, and the truth does hurt.

Can anyone of the 60 million Chinese Muslims be a minister in the republic of china Government?
Can anyone of the 200 million Indian Muslims be a minister in India?
In Malaysia they can...
At one time during the Mao reign, Muslims cannot practice their religion 0penly...and in India, mosques were bombed and demolished...
we are lucky in Malaysia, where we still have Chinese and Tamil schools until today and MCA and MIC still can formed their own universities...
Chinese companies are still allow to put strict requirement for top post that they must be able to speak mandarin if they were to be recruited....
Chinese and Indians are still being allowed to practice their culture without any barriers..
Chinese and Indians can form racial political Parties which monopolied by single race like MCA, DAP,GERAKAN, MIC, PPP etc etc...
What a wonderful world..... oh yaaaaa....

To your racist remarks, hip-hip hurray!
We cannot agree with you, on this, more
We wish we can also join the racists galore
In Bolehland, the route to power, glory is to be racist
Rational and calm discourse does not have any basis
Our leaders can forment fanaticism extremely well
We will merrily follow them into the depths of hell
We it comes to our supreme and only true religion
We faithfully follow our leaders without need for any reason
If our leaders say that God is great and they are greater
Who are we to dispute the wisdom of our divine leaders?
Money, greed of power has nothing to do with this in anyway
Killing a few kafirs to please our leaders is divinely semua-nya OK

The seminar was conducted in English(?).
One does not need to know English to shout (whatever) at a demonstration. But to participate meaningfully in a seminar (if only as a listener), well, you know the drill.
A pity, isn't it?
I have a proposal: how about we get PEMBELA to hold the same Sedition Act Seminar in BM. This is how the Bar Council and its subsidiary units should work, knowing not all Malaysian speak and understand English well.
Planning to do (again) the likes of "Conversion to Islam" seminar? Get input from those who may oppose you. That 300 demonstrators? Some are agent provocateurs; majority are those who have been intimidated - by the 'unknown' fear.
How do I know this? I walk among them. I talk with them. I live with them.
By the way, I don't think RPK truly understand the concept of Kafir (or Non-Kafir?) from an Islamic perspective, based on what I read in his writings. Most unfortunate; Because his non-judicious use of the term leads not to a better understanding of Islam, but to more mis-understanding of Islam among non-Muslims (and Muslims?).
And I see that in the many written comments from the readers.

Needless to say, perhaps people like me, who use this only viable source to vent our frustration, and even find some comfort from some of the postings, and I'd very much like a piece that had really touched the nerves, or rather I'd should say the bull's eye. The writer finally came to a conclusion that leaving Malaysia for good and found a safer place for his kids, means a heck of lot, then fighting with a majority rule of Malay politics that does not care for him, or the Indian, and even our folks from Sarawak & Sabah. So it does not matter who or how anyone get's in..it's the majority Malay that dictates the lives of non-Malays.
In a way your piece is giving clear message that..guys & gals..there's no way you people are going to win, because you are not a Malay. Perhaps I might have taken a different slant in your piece, but that is the bottom line, for our Chinese, Indian, and indigenous brothers & sisters from Sarawak & Sabah, Malaysia will be never a country that would acknowledge we're born in Malaysia, and our sweat & toil from our forefathers meant nothing to the Malay government. I take this moment to say thank you, and perhaps readers & contributors should take your piece to heart, and move on to a different parts of the world, where our contributions for a betterment of a society is not based on our racial origins, but the intellects. Once again, thank you for having to open our eyes wide open.

Dear Peacemonger - that is an interesting observation
.Indeed, my fren Azizi tells me that satu bahasa yang dituturkan pun ada masaalah kefahaman apa lagi jika bahasa rojak matsalleh/mamak digunakan
.Sorry to say, kawan-kawan... the problem could be in the mode of communication!

caustic words you employ are clearly, to me at least, meant to convey a deep
sense of personal anguish at the inability of those of your race to rise above
the poisoned well of racism. The Malaysian race, that is.

I agree with you most of the time.
However, the fact that you do not understand why 300 Malays demonstrated out side the Bar Council office to protest a forum on conversion to Islam but "did not care a damn about" Sedition act forum, imply that you may have miss the point.
You see, when the Bar Counsel insisted to proceed on the first forum, they actually make a public statement which explain in detail why and how they want to have that forum. But the 300 Malay apparently unable to understand their statement.
The problem here is Bar Council's explanation was way too loooong and deeeetail, and unfortunately, for whatever reason, the 300 Malay unable to understand any sentence which consist of more then 5 words. It's not the language that matter. It doesn't matter whether Bar Council said it in English or Malay. It's the words count.
I call this "the 5 words rule".
Bar Council, which leaded by lawyers, have fail to understand the Malay. Malay leader, particular UMNO leader gain from their close contact with floor people, understand and have master the "5 words rule".
Lets recall what they said, "jangan cabar Islam", "Bar Counsil jangan main api", "Jangan cabar Melayu". Clear and straight forward statement, and most important, no more then 5 words.
Some of you may argue that UMNO leader sometime make a long statement too. I will explain to you on this.
Example 1:
AAB said, "Issues concerning religion are very sensitive. Matters are already spelt out... there is no need for discussions,"
In this case, for the whole sentences, what the Malay heard is actually , "religion sensitive, no need discussion". AAB would never waste his time trying to explain why discuss matters of conflict in family law arising from one party's conversion to Islam today ( this sentence is too long man ..) is sensitive. He just said "this is sensitive", and Malay will acknowledge that it is sensitive.
Example 2:
Najib said, “If we try to dissect or argue against the basic terms that was agreed upon in the Constitution, then it will surely cause endless arguments which can affect our country’s peace and stability,”
Never mind Bar Council have never mention anything about challenge the constitution. Never mind most Malay do not know what the forum is all about. Since they hear Najib said, "argue against Constitution", they will immediately link it with another 2 words sentence, "cabar Melayu". Blood would flow rapidly on to their head and they start acting as if they were possessed by the devil.
Dear RPK and readers, now let me explain to you why Malay "did not care a damn about" Sedition act forum.
Allow me to take 2 point from your article :
Point 1 : Islam forbids injustice, inequality, discrimination, racism, persecution, transgressions and corruption.
Point 2 : Sedition Act, Internal Security Act, and many more such laws are injustice, inequality, discrimination, racism, persecution, transgressions and corruption.
So you expect Malay to link these two point together and come out with the conclusion that Sedition Act, Internal Security Act, and many more such laws are "not Islam"?
No way man!
Why no way? Refer to the "5 words rule".
So my final advise, if you want more Malay to take part on forum on Sedition Act, Internal Security Act or others, put the title this way, " Hapuskan undang-undang bercanggah dengan Islam", "Islam untuk kahakiman", etc. I bet you will get more support.
From my name, you can know that I'm not a Malay. I can understand if you not agree with my point of view.
Just my opinion base on observation anyway.

May you continue to inform us of all skeletons in the closets of many in Malaysia.
Going further, the forum was meant to help resolve matters incident to an adult's conversion :-
Like what happens to the inheritance rights of the family of the convert, the childcare of the young children of the adult convert and the economic sustenance of the family already raised by the convert thus far.
These are REAL issues which all nation loving people who love fairplay wouldwant solved to avoid hardship and sorrow to those affected.
For this to be hindered does not speak well for those who did or even those in power who tacitly supported or tried to explain off the demonstrations.
It shows lack of compassion thinking for the nation as a whole with all its diverse peoples and possibilities in occurences.
Taking a stand according to the masses rather than explain the need for such forums towards resolving on a long term basis issues varied peoples of the nation is facing is not going to bring quality social progress to the nation in the future. This ultimately puts us in lesser light in the world standing.

MB Khalid made an innocuous suggestion, in the context of hoping to raise the standards of this university for the Malays. The Chinese and the Indians are NOT exactly tripping over themselves to apply anyway. It is their goose. They can cook it anyway they want. 100% for the Malays is fine with the non Malays. No need to get all worked up and frothing at the mouth. In any case, I suspect they would be hard pressed, very hard pressed, to fill a minuscule 1% quota! MB Khalid was overly optimistic.
For the record, it is A.O.K. to maintain the university's status quo, as far as the non Malays are concern.
Long live RPK. Hope you will overcome all sedition charge against you..
